Resumes
Resumes should always be a one-page summary of your skills and credentials.
The following tips may help get your resume noticed:
- Make sure your name stands out
at the top of the page. Use a different type face or font size from
your address line.
- Use only current addresses where
you can be reached. Provide cell telephone numbers and e-mail addresses.
- Use common typefaces like Times
or Courier and keep the size between 10-14 points.
- Use descriptive action verbs
such as negotiated, organized, developed, established, etc.
- Avoid having your resume sound
like a job description. Instead, summarize
your skills and accomplishments that illustrate your efforts. Provide
proof
of your value with statements that include measurable results.
Example: Achieved and maintained a
10 percent annual growth over a two-year period.
- Remember to include the specific computer
formats you are proficient in
(QuarkXpress is an easy one to misspell).
- Always use spell check* and have at least
four different people edit your resume for errors.
